About ArtsAlive.ca
ArtsAlive.ca is a performing arts educational website produced by the National Arts Centre of Canada. The goals of ArtsAlive.ca are:
- To engage younger generations of Canadians in information, multimedia resources and activities pertaining to the performing arts, and
- To provide free performing arts-related primary and secondary resources to students, parents and teachers to aid them in learning about and teaching the topics presented.
ArtsAlive.ca was launched to the web in March 2002 and originally consisted of one module - ArtsAlive.ca Music. In 2003 the English Theatre module joined the ranks and the following year French Theatre was added. The newest section of ArtsAlive.ca is the highly engaging Dance component. Content is produced in collaboration with the artistic programming departments of the NAC.
ArtsAlive.ca is managed by National Arts Centre (NAC) New Media and is made possible through the generous support of the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canadian Culture Online program. TELUS is a founding sponsor of ArtsAlive.ca.
About Canada’s National Arts Centre (NAC)
The National Arts Centre (in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) raised its curtains for the first time in 1969. Created by the Parliament of Canada as a Centennial project during the 1960s, the NAC has become Canada's foremost showcase for the performing arts.
Today, the NAC works with countless artists, both emerging and established, from across Canada and around the world, and collaborates with scores of other arts organizations across the country.
The NAC is strongly committed to being a leader and innovator in each of the performing arts fields in which it works - classical music, English theatre, French theatre, dance, variety, and community programming. It is at the forefront of youth and educational activities, supporting programmes for young and emerging artists and programmes for young audiences, and producing resources and study materials for teachers.
The NAC is the only multidisciplinary, bilingual performing arts centre in North America, and one of the largest in the world.
About NAC New Media
The National Arts Centre's New Media group is a small team with big ideas. The NAC's New Media team uses today's and tomorrow's technologies to further the National Arts Centre's education and outreach programmes.
NAC New Media works with all the NAC's departments, like programming and education, to develop content for the National Arts Centre's three websites: www.nac-cna.ca, www.artsalive.ca and www.liverush.ca.
Hexagon is the NAC's research and development project, which leverages broadband videoconferencing to extend the reach of the NAC's education and outreach programmes. Telementoring, education outreach, and audience development are explored using ultrafast networks like Canada's CA*net4.
NAC New Media acknowledges the tremendous support of the Department of Canadian Heritage and our technology partners the National Research Council, the Communications Research Centre and CANARIE.
